Here comes one of our summer offerings that people ask about all year long: JAM (July At Milagro)!

JAM is a hands-on summer program of creative workshops for adults led by Milagro staff and guest artists. Classes are just $10 dollars each, and there’s even a kids-enter-free event. Join us, a good time is guaranteed for all!

IROQUOIS DRUMS
Instructor: Tom Vredevoogd
Tuesday July 8 & 15
Local artist and musician Tom Vredevoogd will share his traditional craft of making Iroquois hand drums in this two-session class. Tom will show us the steps to make and play hand drums using pigskin and found objects.

SHADOWBOXES
Instructor: Tina Harris
Wednesday July 9 & Thursday July 10
Learn with Tina Harris how to make your own Cajita de Muertos utilizing iconic Mexican images and other details in this two-session class! These boxes are as unique as their makers and help us maintain traditional aspects of a vibrant culture.

 THEATRE
Performance and workshop* by Milagro Tour
Saturday July 12
This Family Fun Day brought to you by Milagro Tour starts with an afternoon show of the new production Sueños de Futbol, a lively play filled with Mayan folklore and puppets. Candi, a young girl falls into the mysterious realm of “Tierra de Sueños” and must learn to play and win the ancient Mayan ball game of Pok-A-Tok if she wants to return home.  The 45 minute play is followed by a Pok-A-Tok workshop of soccer-infused theatre games and storytelling with “pelota de fuego” (fire ball). Bring your kids and catch this hot event!

COMIDA*
Instructors: Erubiel Valladares and Julieth Maya Buri
July 16: Join Erubiel Valladares for an evening of preparing traditional food from his hometown of Queretaro, Mexico. Erubiel, whose roots reach into Guerrero and Pachuca, will share the process of making ceviche and pumpkin quesadillas.
