Jorge Elías Madrid-Enamorado is from Honduras and moved to the U.S. at age 15. In 2008, he toured with Teatro Milagro’s production of Zapatista and has also appeared in many of Miracle’s Spanish-language productions. In fact, this is his eighth production with Miracle. He has also worked in local independent films, including the award-winning short La orbita del verano. began performing professionally at the age of 13 in Mexico with a folkloric dance troupe. Since 1987 he has been dancing Flamenco, here in Portland. Last year he participated in a theatrical presentation of Christopher Columbus, produced by Arte Flamenco, and appeared in a short film produced for the Aging Services of Washington County. For the past three years, Gerardo has been the host and most recently the producer of "A Su Salud", a series program on cable access. Since 1990 he has worked for el Programa Hispana as an outreach worker for the Hispanic community.

Malán co-founded the Miracle Theatre Group with her husband, José Eduardo González and in 1989 she created the bilingual touring program, Teatro Milagro. Ms. Malán researches and develops script ideas and works with playwrights, directors, composers and choreographers. She has also written several bilingual scripts, which include Cuéntame Coyote (2005, 2014) and FRIDA, un retablo (2006, 2013). Ms. Malán has worn many hats in her 30 some year career as a performing artist. For a number of years she managed and performed with the Milagro Bailadores, Miracle’s pan-Latino dance troupe. She has shared her curricular work and bilingual education techniques as a guest instructor and workshop leader at various workshops, conferences, universities and college campuses around the country. Most recently Ms. Malán was the keynote speaker of the 2015 COFLT conference in Salem, Oregon. Malán also co-founded OYE, Opciónes y Educación, a Latino sexual health coalition with Multnomah County Health Dept. Malán received her BA in Theatre Arts from the University of California, San Diego and is currently working towards an ME in Curriculum Instruction at Portland State University.

(she/ella) a playwright, actor and teatrista, is a lifelong member of Milagro in Portland and an ensemble member with Studio Luna in Los Angeles. She has also performed with Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Cara Mia Theatre, San Jose Stage Company, San Diego Rep, El Teatro Campesino, and Teatro Vision among others.
As a playwright, her theatrical productions include Worry Dolls and Blast Off, commissioned and presented by Teatro Milagro; A Xmas Cuento Remix, which had a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere with Milagro, 16th Street Theater and The Cleveland Public Theatre; and A Christmas Treat commissioned by Cleveland Public Theatre, and featured in 10 Minutes to Midnight: 9 Quirky Plays for the Holidays.
Recently her holiday stories were featured in “Not So Merry and Bright: A Christmas Mixtape by Studio Luna”. Her piece, “Sunshine” was presented in “The In-betweens” for El Centro Del Sur: Latinx Theatre Festival. Her story “Down the Side of the Mountain” is in Teatro Luna’s Audible Original audiobook, “Talking While Female and Other Dangerous Acts”. Maya received her B.F.A in Acting from The Theatre School at DePaul University and she is a graduate of the NALAC Leadership Institute.

began performing at the Miracle Theatre when she was just five years old in Miracle’s Latino folkloric dance company, the Milagro Bailadores. Over the years, she appeared in many of Miracle’s annual El Dia de los Muertos festivals and also in Teatro Milagro’s Cuban musical, Recuerdos de Cuba by Vicente Guzman-Orozco and Fortuna de la Vida, a Spanish language breast cancer awareness play by Rebecca Martinez. In addition to working with Miracle, Sylvia has worked as both an outdoor school counselor and an outreach teacher for the Oregon Zoo’s ZAP Program.
Sylvia Malán-González tuvo sus primeras presentaciones en el Miracle Theatre cuando tenía 5 años de edad con la antigua compañía de baile folklórico Milagro Bailadores. Por algunos años, se la vio en varios festivales del Día de los Muertos y también en el musical cubano del Teatro Milagro Recuerdos de Cuba de Vicente Guzman-Orozco y Fortuna de la Vida de Rebecca Martinez, una obra educativa que habla sobre el cáncer de seno. How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents (2010)
During the past five years, Cynthia has studied with over a dozen dance masters and has performed in Canada, Jamaica, and Trinidad. She has also been teaching Caribbean and Latin dance to students from all over the Portland Area. As co-director of the Bailadores, she brings a great deal of touring and performing experience to the group. Cynthia also teaches at the Living Dance Center, and is the founder of the world Dance Office and its workshop series at Portland State University.

He has been making papier mache masks since the 6 th grade but this is the first non-Halloween application of those skills. He has studied art since grade school with a number of teachers in Washington, Michigan and North Dakota and attended art school at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa. It’s been great fun meeting and working with everyone associated with Milagro.

El Jardín de Sueños (2005)
is a full time professor, dancer and choreographer of flamenco dance and is president of Solo Flamenco and director of the Flamenco Arts Academy. An award-winning flamenco dancer, she is the only Portland-based dancer extensively trained in the flamenco style of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. While living there, she was featured several times on local and national Spanish television. She has performed in Oregon, Washington, South Korea and Spain. In December 2005, she was honored in Korea for her success in connecting Korean culture and flamenco based on a 2001 performance that fused the two art forms. An incredibly versatile artist, Laurena has been called upon by both traditional flamenco artists as well as musicians in other genres; she is the only guest artist on Cellist Skip von Kuske’s debut recording, Intuit.

At Milagro, Gilberto was last seen in Bodas de sangre and Zapatista. This is Gilberto’s sixth production at the Miracle, having also appeared in Rosalba y los Llaveros, Fuente Ovejuna and Ardiente paciencia. He was also seen in Oregon Children’s Theatre production of Ferdinand the Bull and Metamorphoses at Artists Rep.

As a writer, she has been published in several periodicals including The Oregon Literary Review and New Moon. Hannah’s directing credits include Lipstick and Other Cosmetics and The Real Inspector Hound. She has been stage manager for numerous productions, to include Othello, The Pirates of Penzance, Thom Pain (based on nothing) and, for Miracle, La Carpa del Ausente: El Día de los Muertos Festival last autumn.

on short films about immigration with Thoreau Productions in association with Zeling Films. He also participated in a contest 100 Hours with MABO Productions. He has participated in Milagro workshops and recently appeared in Jardín de Sueños and Raíz. Currently he can be found working as a host of an Internet program based in Portland called “Entre Tu y Yo” that supports Latino talent. He wants to dedicate his performance to all his friends who have believed in him and supported him as well as those who strive each day to reach their goals.
Juan Antonio Martínez es originario de Veracruz, México. Ha trabajado en cortometrajes con temas de inmigración con Thoreau Productions en asociación con Zeling Films. También para el concurso de 100 horas con MABO Productions. Ha participado en talleres en el Miracle Theatre Group. Sus últimas dos participaciones en el Milagro fue en la obra Jardín de Sueños y la pasada obra Raiz. is a Software Engineer and has worked for Hewlett-Packard at the Vancouver,WA site for over 5 years. Before moving to the Portland area in 2002, Jose worked on his Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from California State University, Sacramento.
A native of Mexico, Jose was born in Guadalajara and moved to the United States at the age of 15. Jose fell in love with the arts thanks to his teacher's creative teaching techniques that emphasized art as a method for expression and also cultural integration rather than repetition and phrase structuring to simply learn a language. In the spring of 2005, Jose watched the play The Adventures of Barrio Girl at the Miracle and became enamored with the company, and has been blessed with the opportunity to see many more plays since.

Junior, Franklin High School. The reason I joined Pluma Nueva program was because I heard that Pluma Nueva offered the opportunity to act and at the same time do writing workshops. I thought that this would be a fun experience to act my own story while also meeting new people and making more friends. My play talks about my parents and my experience in the U.S. I talk about how a lot of Latinos in this country are undocumented and want to succeed, but they feel they can’t because they are not legal. Even though they face this problem they don’t give up and want to show everyone that they can do it. Even though they have that barrier in front of them.

La Carpa del Ausente (2007)
began his career at a very young age as actor, director and filmmaker. He has directed and toured with several theater companies (performing works from Lorca, Pasolini, Shakespeare and Barry), and has worked as an independent filmmaker for notable organizations in Europe. Most recently he acted in Romeo Castellucci's latest work, Attore, il tuo nome non è esatto. The writings of Antonin Artaud are lately his strongest influence regarding the relationship between the public and the reality of the play. Raíz marks both his Milagro and his U.S. directing debut.

Last season she designed costumes for: CoHo's Spinning into Butter and it's subsequent Summer 2002 remount; Miracle Theatre's El Día de los Muertos Festival; ART's Crumbs from the Table of Joy; Stark Raving Theatre's (SRT) costumes for the world premier of Frogwoman; costumes & props for SRT's After the Zipper (world premier); and props for SRT's Cupid & Psyche (world premier). She recently designed costumes and props for SRT's season opener Killsville (world premier). She will be designing costumes for CoHo's season opener The Amazing Brenda Strider and Sowelu's season opener Curse of the Great Eleven. She will also design costumes & props for Darkstep and Dawning (world premier) for SRT this fall. She is the Costume Designer in Residence for Stark Raving Theatre. She is honored to be designing costumes for Miracle Theatre's season opener La Chunga. It is her pleasure to, once again, work with Daniel Jáquez.

A veteran of the stage since 1974, Sofía has acted, danced, sung and written plays in many languages. She comes from Mexico City, where she studied a BA in Dramatic Literature at UNAM. She has received awards in Mexico and Los Angeles for acting, producing, and singing. She started learning English at 18, then Russian, Armenian, French, and most recently, Mandarin. At Milagro, she has participated in the 2012 and 2013 Luna Nueva Festival, and Latino Artist Exchange, ¡Viva Don Juan!, Ana en el Trópico, Jardín de Sueños, Guapa, Ardiente Paciencia, O Romeo (Drammy nominated for Best Support Actress). She wants to thank: Rebecca, my Pablo, the fun cast, and remember all the muertitos who have needlessly died in wars or in hands of authorities.
Veterana del escenario desde 1974, Sofia actúa, baila, canta y escribe obras en varios idiomas. arrived at directing from several avenues. With a BA in English and Theatre, she is currently an MFA candidate in directing at the University of Portland. In the twenty years between degrees, McDonald-Lewis became a working voice actor in LA, putting her pipes to hundreds of radio and television commercials, and creating dozens of cartoon characters for animated shows such as GI Joe, Superfriends, Batman, The Mask and more. Along the way she became a college-level English and theatre arts instructor, and a broadcast and print journalism. Now an Oregon resident, McDonald-Lewis can be heard on the airwaves daily, read in Media Inc., and is directing in both the commercial and theatrical world. While she enjoys directing radio and television projects, her true love is the theatre. McDonald-Lewis directed Talley's Folly at the University of Portland recently, and has another project in the wings at UP.

As a stage director, culture-producer, disrupter for social justice, and a digital media creator, Meda generates original works through collective/ensemble practice that is engaged both in person and virtually with artists and changemakers across the globe. As a devised theatre maker she nurtures female-driven space that center WOC in rich collaborations between the community, performers, scholars, designers, thinkers, and artists. She is the Artistic Director for Teatro Luna + Teatro Luna West, a national Latinx/WOC collective that tours internationally with ensembles founded in 2000 in Chicago and 2014 in Los Angeles. This spring she directed and co-producted an Audible Original called Talking While Female and Other Dangerous Acts, featuring 25 short solo plays with original music with a forthcoming podcast of the same title. She has a forthcoming book project on the relationship between collaboration, failure, and innovation with Dr. Liza Ann Acosta, contributes to the National Cultural Navigations Project, is a steering committee member of The Jubilee and the Latinx Theatre Commons--both National movements for equality and parity in Theatre. Nick is an award-winning actor, writer, and educator from the SF Bay Area. A former artistic company member of Berkeley’s Shotgun Players, Nick starred in their marathon twelve-hour production of The Coast of Utopia as well as Hamlet Roulette where he played all characters in a random rotation. A core collaborator with We Players, Nick has written several Shakespearean adaptations for the site-specific company, including Caesar Maximus and Undiscovered Country. He currently performs with his improv duo Double Creature and is one of California’s preeminent Benefit Auctioneers.

(Music Director) was born in Mexico City and trained in Cuernavaca, Morelos. He has enjoyed a rich experience in leading a mariachi group for Misa Panamericana, working with young and mature voices. Mr. Medina-Reyes has lived in the Portland area for more than 20 years. He holds a BS in Sciences and Philosophy, and a BA and MA in Education. Formerly the Executive Director of Centro Cultural in Washington Co., he is currently teaching vocal music in the Portland Public Schools and doing translations and some counseling to migrants in the Vancouver area.

is a Dominican-American poet, playwright, award winning author and podcast host. She is the author of two poetry/prose collections Island of Dreams (Floricanto Press), Night-Blooming Jasmin(n)e: Personal Essays and Poetry (Arte Público Press). Her first full poetry collection, Machete, was a finalist for the Noemi Press Book Award for Poetry and is forthcoming as part of their Akrilica Series in 2022. Her YA memoir A Bucket of Dirty Water: Memories of My Girlhood and her debut picture book Josefina’s Habichuelas (Arte Público Press) will be released in fall 2021. Her work is included in the forthcoming YA Latinx Anthology Wild Tongues Can’t be Tamed (Flatiron, Macmillan), edited by Saraciea Fennell, and in The BreakBeat Poets Vol. 4: LatiNext (Haymarket Books). A graduate of Vancouver Film School's acting for film and television program, Patricio has shared his voice and talent on a variety of small projects across the Northwest including I Loved Her First (2021,) and Lover Boy’s Little Dream (2020.) His knack for storytelling led to work as a credited producer on shorts such as Asylum (2017) and his own Make it Happen (2021.) Outside of acting Patricio entertains as a Stand-Up Comedian, with humor derived from his upbringing as a Half-Chilean in the US.

Fuente Ovejuna (2005)
was born in Argentina and, like many musicians of his generation, he came under the influence of popular music (tango, jazz, folk and rock) blending it to his classical music training. In the 80's he founded the group "Nuevos Aires" acting as composer and pianist. The aesthetics of "Nuevos Aires", enrolled in the new tango stream, that caught the attention of Astor Piazzolla. The group was the first to perform one of Piazzolla’s new compositions, "Nuevos Aires", when Piazzolla was made Honorary Citizen of Buenos Aires. In addition to making three records, Claudio has played as a pianist with several popular and tango singers: Emilio del Guercio, José Angel Trelles, Adriana Varela, Marcelo Balsells, Opus Cuatro and Nilda Fernández, among others. As a composer, he has also created the music of several written plays and directed by Daniel Zaballa. In 1999, he published the CD "Piano, piano..." containing his own compositions and some versions of classical tangos. In 2000, he recorded with the vocal group OPUS CUATRO a new CD "Tangos, Valses y Milongas". IN 2001, toured various European cities, and back in Argentina picked up the Carlos Gardel award for “Best Tango Group-2001” for his Tangos, valses y Milongas" CD. In 2002, Claudio recorded the CD "TANGO NUESTRO" with the guitarist Daniel Gómez, which has been selected for the "Carlos Gardel Award 2002".

is a photographer with over 30 years of experience in the art of photography. Alan is an independent fine art photographer who focuses his art on people with an emphasis on the performing arts and the genre of the street. Since shortly after arriving here from New York City in 1993, his photographs have been exhibited in numerous group and individual exhibitions in Portland galleries. His photographs are in the permanent collections of the City of Portland and OHSU Hospital. This is the beginning of Alan's fourth consecutive season as the publicity photographer for the Miracle Mainstage productions. It has been one of the best and most memorable artistic experiences of his life. He is very grateful for the opportunities that Miracle Theatre has provided to allow his creative visions to flow from within and onto film.

Yemaya's Belly (2004)
was born in Havana, Cuba. She is dedicated to preserving the Afro-cuban traditions passed on to her as part of her family heritage. Her professional career as dancer with the world-renowned folkloric company Raices Profundas took her to many different countries from France, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Japan, Nicaragua and Mexico where she was able to share these cultural treasures with the highest level of quality and integrity. As an actress, she has worked in national and international productions Requiem por Yani and Santa Camelia de La Habana Vieja, among others. As a contemporary artist she has collaborated with colleagues abroad and here in the US. Her talent, discipline and knowledge assures her of continued success in the future.

is a Sales and Business Development Professional with over ten years of experience working in Fortune 500 and start-up environments. Currently, Ethan works as an Account Manager for Cisco Systems Inc. here in the Portland OR area. Since moving to Portland in 2002, he has subscribed to the Miracle Theatre and is pleased to have the opportunity to participate on the board. Ethan has served as President of the Information Systems Security Association, Portland Chapter and volunteered for a number of non-profits including OCHA. Languages and travel are an important part of his life. Ethan speaks French and Spanish, and has lived abroad in France and Costa Rica. He feels a particularly strong pull to the Latino culture and regularly travels to Mexico and South America. Ethan grew up in Seattle, studied French at the University of Washington and obtained a Masters in Management at Antioch University. In addition to traveling and languages, he enjoys mountain biking, white water kayaking, dancing and appreciating performance arts.

Rosa Gonzalez is Jean's third role in a Miracle Theatre production. She played Blanca in When the Blues Chase Up A Rabbit and Luz in Unmerciful Good Fortune. Jean has performed with Artists Repertory Theatre as Esther/Belinda in Amazing Grace, as Soot in The Marriage of Bette and Boo, as Mom in Sharon and Billy, and as Bessie in Marvin's Room. She has appeared at the Profile Theatre in Indians, as Miss Holly in Suddenly Last Summer, as Grace in Something Unspoken, as Lou in The Road to Nirvana, and as Amy in Wings. She also played Margery in Vinegar Tom and Harriet in Sticks and Bones at Paula Productions. Jean has received two Drammy nominations for her performances of Luz in Unmerciful Good Fortune and Bessie in Marvin's Room. Jean has an MFA in acting from the University of Louisville.

is a playwright, actor, and co-founder of the collective performance trio, Culture Clash which was formed in 1984 in San Francisco. Montoya is the son of well-known artist, poet, and activist José Montoya, a co-founder of the Chicano artistic collective known as the Royal Chicano Air Force. While growing up, Montoya witnessed his family's involvement in the civil rights movement and the United Farm Workers movement as artist activists. Richard Montoya continues that legacy through his career as a playwright and actor. Through comedy and satire, Montoya's writings relate real-life experiences of everyday people as they confront racism, discrimination, and the difficulties and dangers of living in the margins of American society and on the Mexico-U.S. border. He has co-authored several important works for the national stage and several published anthologies of plays. Among others, he has authored commissioned works for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Arena Stage, the Mark Taper Forum, Yale Repertory, Huntington Theater, Berkeley Rep, the South Coast Repertory and the San Diego Repertory Theater. As a solo writer he has created Water & Power, Palestine New Mexico, Anthems, American Night and The River. Montoya is an alumni of Luis Valdez' Teatro Campesino and of the Sundance Institute’s Writers and Directors Lab, as well as a two-time Annenberg Fellow.

She is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Cygnet Productions, a 20-year-old literature-based theatre company, for whom she has directed dozens of stage productions. A longtime actor of film, television, stage, and improvisation, she is also a freelance casting director for feature films, commercials, music videos, and voiceovers, and is an accomplished playwright and screenwriter. She won the Oregon Book Award for Drama for co-authoring a play about the Algonquin Round Table writers. This is his first "legitimate" theater in 30-plus years.

Spirits of the Ordinary (2003)
is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Drama and the Reed College MAT program. He has been a director, actor, business manager, and stage technician in theater and has taught Drama in Portland area high schools. Since 1971 Peter's specialization in theater has been the Greek drama, particularly to learn how the plays might have been presented in Classic times and how they might be successfully communicated to modern American audiences. Peter researches ancient Greek culture, translates plays, and performs the theatrical results of his work in Northwest schools and communities. The script for this production of Oedipus is his translation of Sophocles. In addition, in this production he has the joyous opportunity to play the Chorus Leader, an opportunity that allows him to hear, clearly and more often, what is good about his script and, alas, what needs "more work."

Amalia Alcaron Morris is an actor of Cuban and Ecuadorian descent, is thrilled to be working with Miracle Theater again alongside an extraordinary director, cast and crew. Amalia has been performing on Portland and Vancouver stages since 2013. Amalia was most recently seen at Milagro in Oye Oya. She feels privileged to be in Watsonville: Some Place not Here, her first English-language production at Milagro. She thanks her grandmother, Amalia, for her culture; her mother Bélgica for her unwavering belief; and her husband James for his never-ending support.

was born in León, Guanajuato, México. His interest in photography and collage are born of a desire to transmit and show his way of seeing the world. His projects focus on a search for strangeness and details which are not often noticed, but which can create an entire space and feeling in and of themselves, such as in documentary work. Pepe coordinates FusionArte and hosts a Spanish language radio program of the same name on KBOO that focuses on art and culture and plays music from different genres and in various languages. He has taught photography classes at various universities, art schools and organizations. In Oaxaca, he was reporter for the newspaper, “El Oaxaqueño,” which was distributed in Los Angeles.

Her travels to Caribbean islands such as St. Thomas, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, St. Martin, Martinique, Antigua, and Puerto Rico have inspired her interest in learning the dance traditions of Latin America. She is currently the Coordinator of the World Dance Office at Portland State University and has been actively performing with the Milagro Bailadores for the last year.

Kristen Mun has worked as a fight choreographer for over half a dozen theatre companies in the Portland area and has trained in theatrical combat for over 10 years. She has been recognized for her fight choreography 3 times by the Portland Drammy's. Outside of Portland she has worked at Utah Shakespeare Festival, Idaho Repertory Theatre, and was the assistant fight choreographer at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for 2 seasons (09-10).

Around Portland her props and wigs have been seen at Northwest Children’s Theatre, Insight Out Theatre Collective, Lakewood Theatre, Lewis & Clark College and Third Rail Rep. Regionally she’s worked with the Goodman Theatre, Seattle Opera and Seattle Repertory Theatre, Artists Repertory and Portland Center Stage. She is a performer, mask-maker and proud member of IATSE Local 28.

is an actor and musician from Texas, debuting in Portland theatre as stage manager for Opción Múltiple. Rochelle has played a singing cupid in the YouTube romantic comedy Love Drunk, a hipster in the 48-Hour Film Project’s Awesome Dumb Time Travel Movie, and a zombie extra on NBC’s Grimm among other roles in Portland film and commercials. She is co-creator of TwinEmpire.com, a website showcasing comedy and music collaborations with her twin sister. She studies at The Actor’s Lab and has also trained in improv at The Brody Theater. As a musician, Rochelle is frontwoman and songwriter for the harmonic rock band The Yes-And Band and is a trained percussionist and guitarist. Rochelle thanks Olga, Nelda, Santos, and Gavin Hales for their support in her adventures in stage managing.
