Sarah Asks: Won’t You Think of the Children?

Sarah Asks: Won’t You Think of the Children?

A special word from Development Assistant, Sarah Kohler:

I’ve got something important to ask you.

portland children participate in milagro's educational activities

As you may know, I started out at Milagro as a volunteer, and since coming on board as development assistant, I’ve seen first-hand how important Milagro’s mission and programs are to this community. Portland, despite of its many positive traits, still has room for improvement in the areas of diversity and education – especially in the arts. So many kids go through elementary, middle, and high school without experiencing the mind-expanding effects of art, music & theatre; these same kids are often on free or reduced lunch programs, and come from low income families who cannot afford to fund arts classes outside of school.

Willamette Week has created an innovative program to reward its readers for supporting worthy causes like ours. For the 2nd year in a row, we are one of the beneficiaries of their Give!Guide, and we are dedicating our $5,000 goal this year to support Milagro’s arts education programs, and this is where you come in. Would you be willing to contribute $100 to help us reach our goal to reach more kids with our bilingual arts programs?

Besides the warm and fuzzy feeling of knowing you are making a difference in our youths’ lives, donating makes you eligible for some pretty sweet incentives! For example, if you are among the first 50 donors contributing to Milagro via the Give!Guide, you will receive a $10 gift certificate to Le Bistro Montage, and all donors to Milagro will be entered into a drawing for one of two $50 Montage gift certificates! There are many other rewards for giving: anything from a taco from ¿Por Qué No?, or a scoop of Salt & Straw ice cream, to an Oregon Pinot Noir from A to Z Wineworks. As a very special thank you for a donation to Milagro of $50 you will receive a 2-for1 voucher for a future performance, and if you give $150 or more, you will receive your very own copy of the gorgeous book of photographs from our Day of the Dead productions, Teatro de los Muertos. Of course, you can also just purchase your own copy in one of three different editions. (Already donated? You can donate additional funds to qualify for more incentives!)

willamette week give guide benefits milagro and over a hundred other nonprofits

This is a great time for giving! Make a donation of $10 or more on Thurs. December 12, the last of the Big Give Days, and you could win a case of spirits from Rogue Distillery!

Last year Give!Guide raised $1.75 million for 100 nonprofits. This year, the goal is to raise $2.1 million, and we are determined to be an essential part of realizing that goal.

By the way, did you know that there are only 3 weeks left to give through the Give!Guide?
