Season42

2025 - 2026

Finding strength in our families, in our community, and in ourselves.

In this upcoming season at Milagro, we will be uplifting family in our own original way and doing so with a full season of productions by women, who are the heart and soul of our Season42: Fuerza en Familia.  Throughout the season we will be pushing the boundaries of how we define “family” and challenging the expectations of familial obligations.

In addition to the performances in the Milagro Theatre, educational workshops and Community Artes events will pop-up in El Zocálo throughout the season.  Special events will include ongoing Tertulia: Art + Conversation events celebrating our Milagro Artist Fund recipients and community conversations about topics and themes in our productions.  There will also be community workshops, and altars during the fifth annual Central Eastside Muertos Celebration, playreading and other events for Mundo de las Mujeres, as well as our family favorite, Posada Milagro

This season there is something for everyone at El Centro Milagro!

Directed by Alex Meda

Worry Dolls follows two best friends, Luz and Sonia, navigating middle school together. These girls tell each other everything- but everyone has secrets and worries. Both girls are bombarded by the anxiety of growing up, not to mention the trauma and grief they are still processing from the COVID-19 pandemic. While Sonia struggles with the grief of her mother’s passing, Luz’s world opens up when a set of gifted Guatemalan worry dolls come to life and battle her Worry Monster.

Alebrijes

30th Annual Dia De Los Muertos Festival

October 17 – November 9, 2025

Written by Georgina Escobar

For the 30th anniversary of Milagro’s Dia de los Muertos festival, audiences will meet the creator of alebrijes, Pedro Linares, in a playful homage that celebrates his totemic creations. In this fantastical retelling, he attempts to trade his soul with La Muerte to save his brother but quickly learns that you shouldn’t gamble with death. Set in present-day San Luis Potosí, in Xochimilco in 1936, and in an afterlife that looks like a psychedelic Oaxacan jungle, young Pedro realizes the importance of his relationship with his pets as they rescue him from this near-death experience.

 Los Empeños de una Casa

February 20 – March 8, 2026

Written by Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz

A Spanish Golden Age Classic, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz’s Los Empeños de una Casa is a romantic comedic farce. With its hilarious entrances, exits, elaborate plots, disguises, and love triangles, there’s bound to be chaos under this one roof. Join siblings Don Pedro and Doña Ana in their romantic pursuits of Doña Leonor and Don Carlo, and root against their parents and romantic nemeses, in this modern adaptation of a Spanish language classic.

Brown Face

May 8 – 24, 2026

Written by Carissa Atallah

Directed by Mia Torres

Gracia is a Chicana writer and DREAMer. To draw attention to her work but not her undocumented status, Gracia convinces her white and US-born best friend Mariza to perform her poetry. When Gracia’s words launch Mariza into gaining a following as a Latinx artist and activist, their friendship is tested by issues of privilege and cultural appropriation. Part play, part poetry slam, “Brown Face” follows a group of college students as they navigate their identities in the competitive world of spoken word poetry.
