Los Porteños Writers Group Offers Readings

Los Porteños, Portland’s Latino writers’ group, will be reading at this year’s Wordstock Festival and Miracle’s Day of the Dead celebration.  Wordstock has a Spanish-language focus this year, so we are proud to present two readings:

Speaking in English—Dreaming in Spanish (Saturday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. at the Oregon Convention Center): What does it mean to be Latino living in the U.S.? Los Porteños will read from their own work and the works of other  U.S. Latino writers who inspire their dreams. Featured readers: Frank Delgado, Mary Meredith Drew, Joaquín López, Octaviano Merecías-Cuevas and Emma Oliver.

Redrawing the Universe (Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Oregon Convention Center): How does language redraw the line between dream and reality?  Los Porteños will read from their own work and the works of Latin American writers who have dared to reimagine the world.  Featured readers: Catherine Evleshin, Cindy Williams Gutiérrez, Alberto Moreno and Ivonne Saed.

And get ready for Los Porteños’ annual Día de los Muertos reading on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 12 noon at El Centro Milagro (525 SE Stark St.).
