In rehearsal now is our next production, the National New Play Network’s Rolling World Premiere of Caridad Svich’s new script “Guapa,” opening March 22, 2013. Director Olga Sanchez has assembled a fantastic cast of actors featuring a mix of familiar faces and performers making their Milagro debut.
Michelle Escobar (Guapa), a Portland native, is extremely grateful to be making her Milagro debut with such a talented group. Born to Panamanian parents, Michelle recently graduated from Amherst College with a double major in Theater and Spanish. Past roles include Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Maribel in Maribel y la extraña familia, and Juliette in Exit the King. She would like to thank her family and friends for nurturing her fiendish passion for theater all these years.
Sofia May-Cuxim (Roly) is an actor, singer, writer, translator and certified interpreter from Mexico City. She started learning English at 18, then Russian. At Milagro, she has participated in ¡Viva Don Juan!, Ana en el trópico, and the 2012 La Luna Nueva Festival. She authored last season’s production of Jardín de sueños and has taught workshops for Latino Artist Exchange. A veteran of the stage since 1974, Sofia has acted, sung, danced, written, designed and participated in plays in many languages, and she has won numerous awards for her writing.
Crystal Ann Muñoz (Pepi) is thrilled to be making her Milagro debut! She was most recently seen as Marie (& other roles) in The Huntsmen at Portland Playhouse. Other Portland credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Post5 Theatre Co, and The Clean House at Lunacy Stageworks. Regional credits include Marin Shakespeare Company (Antony and Cleopatra, The Taming of the Shrew); Idaho Repertory Theatre (Romeo and Juliet, Unnecessary Farce); and Moscow Art Theatre, Too (The Tempest).
Tristan Nieto (Hakim) hails from San Pedro, CA, and trained at the California State Summer School for the Arts. He has been performing since age 13. Tristan is currently completing his Bachelor’s thesis on the Rocky Horror Picture Show at Reed College where he studies Literature & Theatre. This will be Tristan’s first professional performance to date and he hopes to continue a career in theatre arts after graduation.
Pablo Saldana (Lebon) is currently studying Jazz Voice Performance at Portland State University. This is his second production at Milagro and is more than thrilled to be back. He was lastly seen as El Jaguar in Milagro’s production of Jardin de sueños, and also seen as one of the townsfolk in the Northwest Children’s Theatre original musical, El Zorrito. He wants to give special thanks to his first acting mentors, Jo and Derek Lane, as well as Julio Saldana and his entire family for the support.
