Every year Milagro observes Día de Muertos with the premiere of a new production, altar display, and community events through the Central Eastside Muertos Celebration. Día de Muertos is a long-honored tradition with roots in Indigenous Mexican culture. Day of the Dead is observed annually in Mexican and other Latinoamerican cultures on November 2nd as a day of remembrance of those that have passed. Individuals and families who honor this day set up ofrendas (altars) with offerings to their departed loved ones. Typical offerings include marigolds, calaveras, photos of the dead, and traditional food like pan de muerto. Keep reading to find out more about Milagro’s participation in Día de Muertos!
Milagro’s 29th annual Día de Muertos’ production, Canciónes de la Familia
This year, Milagro observes their 29th Día de Muertos with a new production, Canciónes de la Familia, which will celebrate the beauty of the queer community and found families. This devised performance, directed by Clarrissa Rodriguez, is chock-full of music, laughter and calaveras. It’s a must-see!
