¡VIVA LA REVOLUCIÓN!
Created by Martín Milagro
October 21 to November 13, 2011
An original, bilingual celebration of the Day of the Dead
Sponsored by Ronni Lacroute and the Consulate of Mexico in Portland
Every year, the dead are commemorated in Portland’s longest-running Día de los Muertos celebration. In the early 20th century, when the people of Mexico joined forces to demand reform, Las Adelitas were women who placed themselves in the line of fire in support of the Mexican revolutionaries. Celebrated in music and dance with corridos and baile folklórico, we honor those who fought bravely for liberation. |

BOLEROS FOR THE DISENCHANTED
Written by José Rivera (Oscar-nominated author of the screenplay adaptation of The Motorcycle Diaries)
February 10 to March 3, 2012
Sponsored by Urban Robotics and the Willamette Week
Passion and humor collide amid the warm, sunny breezes of 1950s Puerto Rico when Eusebio sweeps Flora off her feet and off to America — away from her family and her familiar life. Nearly 40 years later, an angel visits Eusebio with a mysterious message that stirs up old secrets and causes Flora to question the life she has tirelessly built in a foreign land. “Deeply affecting! Beautiful! A play that celebrates love.” —The Boston Globe |

OEDIPUS EL REY
Written by Luis Alfaro
May 4 to 26, 2012
A story that “crackles with electricity” —Washington Examiner
Sponsored by Josie Mendoza and Hugh Mackworth
With Chicano swagger and sly sense of humor, Luis Alfaro transports Sophocles’ tragedy to the mean streets of East L.A. Here Oedipus does hard time for ripping off a Costco, Jocasta splashes on the Jean Naté while glued to “All My Children” and the oracle takes cash only. But the word on the street is not good and the passion Oedipus has for one woman will violate our most sacred law. |
